Conclusion

Even if we are forced to be equal like the people in the story Harrison Bergeron, we would all be different because of our different individualities, emotions, opinions and simply by the way we act and look. Like snowflakes or flowers, we are all the same yet we are different. And no matter what or who tries to make us equal there are those small things that are different inside our body, mind and soul that make us all different.

Balance by Nikhil Parekh

In Harrison Bergeron everyone is equally balanced and if they are not they are handicapped for that difference so that they all remain equal. Yet everyone is different because of many things like emotion or personal opinions. Everyone was put with handicaps so that they all were balanced, but even before they were assigned the handicaps they were balance, but in a different way. This is shown in a poem called Balance where there are many things that are all balanced, but are balanced in their own special way like the people in the story Harrison Bergeron. “Every human trespassing on the trajectory if this planet; balanced himself magnificently on his two feet and strong arms, And every life spawned in this Universe by the Creator; sagaciously balanced itself between its chare of enchantingly good and diabolically bad……”

“The celestial waterfall culminating into an superlatively alluring spray after smashing against the rocks; balanced itself animatedly between the gargantuan cliffs of the indefatigably towering mountain,” Like the waterfall balanced itself between the cliffs of the mountain, the people with handicaps have balance their lives between the lives with and without handicaps. When their handicaps are in effect everyone is equal, but when they are not in effect everyone is free to show their emotions and true individuality before the handicaps come back into effect.

Barcode

All the people who live in the city where Harrison Bergeron lived were all handicapped or had some complexity that made them equal to each other. However they were all different because they were all handicapped for different purposes. Some people were too intelligent for the average human or some were too strong. Like the different handicaps that are used for different purposes, the barcode that is used in this photograph is used to show the difference in that people even though we are all the same, humans.

I think that the barcode is placed on the neck instead of some where else is because everyone’s necks are the same except for maybe the size and the colour of the persons skin. If the photographer had placed the barcode on a face or hand, it would have been different because the face and hands are different for everyone. I think that the photographer has used this to state that even though we are all the same we are unique and have our own personal individuality like a barcode is different from one another.

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

In Harrison Bergeron everyone is forced to be equal but even if they are, they are still their individual self. Like this, in the story by Stephenie Meyer, The Host aliens invade Earth and implant souls in humans so that they are not dangerous. But even after majority of the human race was implanted with souls their habits and other feelings were still there. This shows that even though everyone was the same, with souls, they were still different by each of their own individuality that existed within their human body. “The father pushed the child in the swing from behind, while the mother stood in front, leaning in to kiss his forehead when he swung her way, making him giggle so hard… I was aware of Ian close behind us now listening silently. See? I pointed at the laughing mother. See how she loves her human child? ... She has not given him up for a hostThe emotions of these bodies are so much stronger than logic.

Melanie Stryder, the main character of the story was implanted with a soul but unlike other humans Melanie Stryder’s soul didn’t want to be overcome by the other soul. “What about you? I finally asked. Do you still believe in something more, even after all of this? My thoughts raked over her memories of the end of the human world. It seems like there are some things that can’t die.” Throughout the story both Melanie and the soul named Wanderer shared one body, yet both of them had different emotions and thoughts which is what showed their individuality.

Introductory Paragraph

We may all be the same even if we are forced to be equal, but in the inside everyone is special in a different way. This is shown in Stephenie Meyer's, The Host, a picture entitled Businessman with Barcode Tattoo on Neck and a poem by Nikhil Parekh called Balance. All these stories are linked to the story by Kurt Vonnegut Junior called Harrison Bergeron. In this story everyone is to be equal even though they may be talented with a special gift. All of these stories are linked because someone could be really intelligent or they could just be different by what their emotions are. Like snowflakes we are all different emotionally and physically, yet we are all the same because we are all humans, no matter what race.
