In Harrison Bergeron everyone is forced to be equal but even if they are, they are still their individual self. Like this, in the story by Stephenie Meyer, The Host aliens invade Earth and implant souls in humans so that they are not dangerous. But even after majority of the human race was implanted with souls their habits and other feelings were still there. This shows that even though everyone was the same, with souls, they were still different by each of their own individuality that existed within their human body. “The father pushed the child in the swing from behind, while the mother stood in front, leaning in to kiss his forehead when he swung her way, making him giggle so hard… I was aware of Ian close behind us now listening silently. See? I pointed at the laughing mother. See how she loves her human child? ... She has not given him up for a host… The emotions of these bodies are so much stronger than logic.”
Melanie Stryder, the main character of the story was implanted with a soul but unlike other humans Melanie Stryder’s soul didn’t want to be overcome by the other soul. “What about you? I finally asked. Do you still believe in something more, even after all of this? My thoughts raked over her memories of the end of the human world. It seems like there are some things that can’t die.” Throughout the story both Melanie and the soul named Wanderer shared one body, yet both of them had different emotions and thoughts which is what showed their individuality.
